Jamboodas Teachers

What started in 2001 in my living room as a music-and-movement playgroup for my friends and their kids has expanded into an ever-growing collection of award-winning recorded music, regular live performances by the JAMband, classes & camps for kids, and workshops for the grown-ups who hang with them. In the spirit of continued expansion, I am thrilled to announce the addition of some wonderful new teachers to the Jamboodas family to help me expand into JAMspace, all of them fun and fabulous creative souls. Scroll down to learn about us.

Charity Kahn is a mother, songwriter, musician, educator and the founder of Jamboodas Music and Dance and Charity and the JAMband. She's been singing and dancing with children and families since the inception of JAM in 2001, following careers as a high school math teacher, writer and web site engineer. Here's why she now does what she does:

"There is nothing more pure or honest than a child, and nothing more powerful than a grown-up doing her or his best to respond consciously and responsibly to that being. These little souls are our finest guides! The music of the JAMband emanates from the day-to-day experience of being in relationship with children -- the tender connections that shine in our memories, the moments where we as grown-ups experience the infinite through our unconditional love, the hysterically funny and sometimes downright maddening ups and downs of family life. We are lucky these folks chose to share these moments with us, and the fact that we have a chance to sing, dance and create -- PLAY! -- along with them is a true gift. So let's go!"

Charity leads Jamboodas classes, JAMcamp Classic, Birthday Parties, and runs JAMspace.

Kim Wilson is a Creative Writing student, nanny, musician, and all-around make-believer! She has been working with children for seven years in both academic and creative environments, and loves watching them learn and grow. She believes that learning comes from playing, dancing, exploring, and getting your hands dirty! Kim has been trained in the JAM curriculum and has spent the past year bringing the joy of JAM to families at JAMspace and beyond.

Kim is thrilled to be a part of the Jamboodas family, teaching Jamboodas classes (ages 0-4) and co-counseling JAMcamp (ages 5-8).

Ashley Cowan is originally from Avon, CT and is a graduate of Roger Williams University, located in Bristol, RI, where she double majored in Communications and Theatre. While attending school she ran an after school drama program for a local elementary school and after graduating she moved to New York City where she continued to teach and act. Ashley moved to San Francisco two years ago when she was offered a role in "Tony N Tina's Wedding" and found a teaching position with Young Performers Theater; she has been living, teaching, and acting in the Bay Area ever since and is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach Presenting a Play (ages 6-9) and Making a Musical (ages 8-11) classes and camps!
