The lyrics booklet
Despite the trend toward digital over physical music consumption, I made the decision to continue printing CDs because I know many parents still rely on them in the car, etc. In an attempt to add value, I took the opportunity to create a lively 32-page full-color booklet containing the song lyrics, artwork, and also quotes from my favorite heroes of non-violence and LOVE. (Also, your kids can search for the sunshine on every page.) I hope you enjoy the extra inspiration, and that the quotes spark some interesting and important conversations between you and your children. You can view the artwork in pdf format here.

"Listeners shouldn't deduce from the album title that this a CD full of conservative, judgemental tunes that espouse a vision of America driven by fear of the unknown. Charity Kahn is simply presenting the idea of a global, interactive family in which all of us look after and take care of each other. Right on." (Compares us to Soundgarden, Neil Young, James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton, Joni Mitchell, The Allman Brothers)

Family Man
We in the Keer house have been fans of Charity and the JAMband since my two oldest were grooving to 2006's Rock Your Socks Off. Charity Kahn and her bandmates perform songs with lyrics of peace and family togetherness layered with any number of funky, dreamy, rocking, and rolling sounds. Disarming listeners with her with youthful voice, Charity has a drive in her music that rings with such genuine belief in the Family Values her songs speak of that it's hard not to be transported to an idyllic state of mind. Among the 13 diverse tracks are the Lenny Kravitz-like propulsion of the title track, the folk lilt of "Lovingkindness," the Bangles-esque "Valentine," the electronic jazz-rock of "Flower of Power," and the bluesy anthem of "We Are the Ones." The rhythms and song craft are so good on this album, it?s one of those discs adults can shamelessly listen to even when the kids aren't around.

The SIMPLE Moms
Charity and the JAMband's Family Values has the heart of a 60s flower child and a folksy jam band soul, with a funk-rock fringe around the edges. I am TOTALLY into this album! It is a beautiful positive prayer for your soul. The messages in these songs are fun and powerful and positive and just wonderful!

Midwest Book Review
Family Values, a music CD for ages 3-9 about the enduring value of positive emotions and outlooks, as well as the precious virtues of kindness and empathy toward other human beings. The musical tempo ranges from thoughtful to singsong to flat-out rock'n'roll. A delightful work featuring intelligible lyrics, a strong moral message, and an inner soul of compassion, Family Values is highly recommended.

Sunshine Wonderland
Family Values is an album for any family that wants to instill love, sweetness, nature, thankfulness and kindness for others in their family, community, and of the world.?

Shakefire
A+ (4.38 out of 4)
All of it is fantastic. There is lots to enjoy by the whole family and issues discussed that should make any parent happy to introduce to their children. Definitely recommended.

Take It From Me
This music has a meaning and a message for everyone. The songs depict how love, compassion, joy, understanding, patience, gratitude, respect, and more can shine throughout our families.  Along with these great messages, my kids and I really loved the artistic nature of this album.  The lyrics, the sounds, the powerful spoken words from Charity and more--it was interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable for us all.

Baltimore's Child
Family Values celebrates life, love, community, respect, compassion, gratitude, and understanding. Aren't those all the values we want to teach our children?

Mr Jeff 2000
Charity and the JAMband knows that rocking out won't hurt you, it will only help you grow. That's still true for children from one to 100.

Sweep4Bloggers
Charity and the JAMband gives me that same happy feeling as being at a concert even though I'm just listening to a CD. The tracks are full of energy and perfect for singing and dancing along with. There are a variety of musical styles, but the whole CD has a very 1970's peace-loving spirit. The songs have positive messages about family (all of us, not just blood relatives), peace, kindness and caring for one another. We can all use some happy Family Values!

My Springfield Mommy
Charity and the JAMband: Family Values is designed for ages 3-9, but it is put together in a way that adults will enjoy as much as the young target audience. It pulls together messages we all need to be reminded of through a wide range of musical variety that somehow flows and keeps you listening repeatedly and before long you find yourself singing along. I loved how Family Values opens with the sound of an phonograph needle hitting a record and the reciting of the "Peace Pledge" which embodies the message of the album and reminds us that we all need to do our share to promote peace throughout the world, including caring for each other and our environment. I love that the album reminds children that even though people look different in various ways their are more ways that we are all completely the same. The music is travels from the peace & love sound of the 60s & 70s to the rock'n'roll of the 80s and beyond.  I think this album is really timeless for all ages.

As They Grow Up
Each song is unique but equally wonderful. And while the songs are musically beautiful, they also have an undercurrent of deep thoughts and a vision of love/acceptance for everyone of the world.

Warren Truitt at About.com
Charity Kahn and her JAMband have been rocking for over a decade, and their latest album, Family Values, continues the rock. Listeners shouldn't deduce from the album title that this a CD full of conservative, judgmental tunes that espouse a vision of America driven by fear of the unknown. Charity Kahn is simply presenting the idea of a global, interactive family in which all of us look after and take care of each other. Right on.

The Band
San Francisco-based Charity Kahn has been conducting movement and music classes for children for over a decade, and her music CDs play a big part in her philosophy of Joy and Music for kids and their families. Family Values is Charity and The JAMband's fifth album, following up 2009's Party Like a Twinkle Star, one of the very few non-compilation double albums in the kids' music genre; 2006's Rock Your Socks Off; the 2004 release Peanut Butter and JAM; and the band's 2002 kids' music debut JAM: Music for Movement with Children. For more information about Charity Kahn and her JAMband or her movement classes for children, visit the official Charity and the JAMband website. You'll find lots of free kids' music downloads, as well.

The Music of Family Values
Family Values begins with The JAMband's "Peace Pledge," a spoken word statement that reiterates Charity Kahn's beliefs about thoughtfulness on both the personal level and on a global level. The chunky riff of "Family Values" follows, celebrating our individualities and similarities with a swirling Soundgarden funk. "Lovingkindness" is a sweet, simple tune about peace and happiness. The fairy tale tune "Lemonade" lopes along with Neil Young-like verses and incorporates some of the song structure of the classic "And the Green Grass Grew All Around," while the reggae rhythms of "Bike" extol the joys of two-wheeled freedom. The piano ballad "Love is Here" reminds us that love is ubiquitous if you just look around. The tune is a great lighter-lifter once it gets to the chorus, and contains hints of James Taylor's "Country Road," from his 1970 album Sweet Baby James. "Ice Cream" celebrates summer treats while lifting its structure and sound from Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" from the 1971 classic Led Zeppelin IV, ending with a searing guitar solo by JAMband member Daryn Roven.

More Music from Family Values
The strummed strings of a mandolin and the dancing notes of a piano carry the sweet "Valentine," while the groovy, laid back verses and power chord choruses of "Flower Power" are reminiscent of a Peter Frampton tune. "Green Beans Everywhere" uses complex chords and tons of harmonies to bring up the subject of childhood hunger, and the song's sound and structure will remind you of Joni Mitchell. The jaunty, sing-songy "Grateful" asks what you are thankful for, while "We are the Ones" encourages proactive thinking and actions via a tune that sounds a lot like The Allman Brothers Band song "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" from their 1972 double album Eat a Peach.

The Verdict
Charity and The JAMband know their classic rock references. They also have an agenda: have fun but be thoughtful. All the songs on Family Values emphasize in some way the importance of mindfulness, making human connections, treating everyone and everything with respect, all while enjoying one's existence. Too heavy for a kids' album? Not by a long shot, because children sometimes are better able to help us adults keep those things in mind. Family Values will make a nice addition to your kids' music collection, especially if you're a fan of classic rock vibes. And make sure to check out the thought-provoking quotes interspersed throughout the lyrics booklet.Charity and The JAMband know their classic rock references.
